Get Paid to Drive: Earn Up to $30 Per Hour Making Deliveries!

With the advent of car services like Uber and Lyft, there are now many ways to get paid to drive. However, not everyone wants to earn money by picking up other people. Whether it’s personal safety concerns or insurance and liability worries, taxi-like services aren’t for everyone.

Thankfully, there are other ways you can get paid to drive your car without picking up people. All you’ll need is a smartphone and a willingness to drive.

Though this isn’t working from home, these companies let you use your car to make deliveries for money, all with a flexible work schedule, and many with weekly pay. 

Get Paid To Drive

UberEATS

UberEATS is a delivery-style service that pairs drivers with partnered restaurants. Customers order through the UberEATS app, and you’ll pick up the order from the restaurant then deliver it to the customer.

As a driver, you can work your own schedule by picking up orders through the UberEATS app. All you have to do is sign up as a driver and download the UberEATS app. You’ll then be notified of available jobs. Delivery hours vary depending on the city, but UberEATS is available in most cities from 8am to 12am seven days a week, with instant delivery service during lunch hours (11am – 2pm) Monday through Friday.

Type of Delivery: You’ll deliver food from partnered restaurants.

Payment: Depending on the city, drivers can expect to earn as much as $12 an hour plus $2-$3 for every delivery.

Locations: UberEATS drivers serve several U.S. cities and select cities in Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, Asia, and Africa.

Driver Requirements: To become an UberEATS driver, you’ll need to be at least 19 years old (21 years old in Canada), have a driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registration, at least 1 year of driving experience, and the ability to lift 30 pounds. UberEATS also accepts bikers as drivers, and they only require bikers to be at least 19 years old and able to lift 30 pounds.

UberRUSH

UberRUSH is an on-demand service for small businesses that need a courier to deliver items to customers.

To become a driver, you’ll need to sign up as a courier on Uber’s website and download the app. As a driver, you’ll be notified of available jobs and deliver the item or package according to specific instructions given by the business.

Type of Delivery: Delivered items can range from a briefcase or laptop, mail, or ordered consumer products.

Payment: Uber Rush drivers or bikers receive typically 75%-80% of every delivery fee, with the potential to earn $20-$30 per hour.

Locations: Only available in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.

Driver Requirements: You’ll need to be at least 19 years old, have a driver’s license, insurance, and vehicle registration, at least 1 year of driving experience, and the ability to lift 30 pounds. UberRUSH also accepts bikers as drivers, and they only require bikers to be at least 19 years old and able to lift 30 pounds.

InstaCart

InstaCart is a grocery delivery app that matches customers to shoppers. Customers place their grocery orders via the app, and InstaCart shoppers and drivers fulfill those orders.

Type of Delivery: Groceries from local stores. You can choose to be a driver to make deliveries only, or you can shop and deliver orders.

Payment: You will be paid weekly.

Locations: InstaCart currently operates in 23 markets.

Driver Requirements: Get paid to drive with InstaCart if you are at least 21 years old (18+ in Boston), have a reliable vehicle and a smartphone, can lift 30+ pounds, and eligibility to work in the United States. You must pass a background check and attend an in-person orientation.

Amazon Flex

Amazon Flex is a delivery service that allows Amazon to deliver Amazon Prime Now packages quickly. Using the Amazon app on your smartphone, you’ll be notified of available deliveries, and you will pick up and deliver items. You’ll typically work in 2, 4, or 8-hour blocks in one day, or set your availability for up to 12 hours in the future.

Type of Delivery: You’ll deliver Amazon Prime Now packages to customers, which include electronics, household items, and more.

Payment: Drivers typically make $18-$25 an hour.

Locations: Amazon Flex is currently available in Arlington (VA), Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, Raleigh, Richmond, Rockville (MD), San Antonio, Seattle, Springfield (VA), Tampa Bay, and Virginia Beach. Flex is also available in Birmingham, UK with more cities upcoming.

Driver Requirements: Drivers must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and vehicle (no bikes). You’ll also have to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.

Postmates

Postmates is a 24/7 delivery service that allows customers to order from any store and through the Postmates app get it delivered by a courier. Couriers are provided jobs based on the Postmates dispatch algorithm, which chooses the best driver depending on location, vehicle type, rating, and more.

Type of Delivery: Couriers might deliver anything from food to furniture, depending on your mode of transportation.

Payment: Postmastes says you can earn up to $25 per hour, with an opportunity to earn tips with each delivery.

Locations: Postmates is currently available in 25 states.

Driver Requirements: You can use a bike, car, scooter, or truck to deliver. You must also pass a background check, and possibly an in-person interview and test deliveries.

If you want to get paid to drive, but you don't want to pick up people, try one of these services. All you'll need is a smartphone and a willingness to drive, and you can earn up to $30 per hour!

Kanga

Kanga is an on-demand delivery app, where shippers create a request for a driver to pick up and deliver. To start, you’ll have to register through the Kanga Driver app. Once your registration and application are complete, you’ll be able to choose which hours you want to work and which deliveries you want to make.

Type of Delivery: Kanga couriers might be expected to deliver large items (such as furniture) or small orders, such as food, apparel, or electronics. Offers are dependent on the type of vehicle you use for deliveries.

Payment: Earnings depend on the number of offers you complete, the distance you drive, and the type of item delivered. You will be paid weekly via PayPal.

Locations: Kanga is available in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia and Nashville.

Driver Requirements: To become a Kanga driver, you must be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving record, your own vehicle (car, truck, van, SUV, or bike), and a current registration and driver’s license.

Grubhub

Grubhub offers online and mobile food ordering from thousands of restaurants. Grubhub also partners with another delivery service, Seamless, so you may have access to deliver their orders as well.

Type of Delivery: Deliver food from local restaurants.

Payment: According to Glassdoor, drivers earn around $13 per hour. This likely depends on several factors, though, including where you are and when you drive.

Locations: Grubhub currently operates in 22 U.S. markets.

Driver Requirements: You must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and insurance. You can use any type of vehicle, and if you’re in Manhattan, you can even deliver on foot.

Deliv

Deliv is a crowdsourced, same-day delivery service for retailers and customers. Customers order through partner retailers, either on-site or online, and choose a delivery option.  Deliv drivers then receive the order through the Deliv driver app, follow delivery instructions, and confirm the delivery to the customer.

Type of Delivery: Consumer goods from retailers.

Payment: Drivers are paid weekly. Earnings are variable depending on delivery miles and other factors.

Locations: Deliv currently serves Atlanta, Boston/Cambridge, Chicago, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, NYC Metro Area, Northern New
Jersey, Orange County, Philadelphia, San Francisco to San Jose, Seattle, Washington DC.

Driver Requirements: You must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration and insurance. Your vehicle must be a 2-door, 4 seat car or bigger, have air conditioning, and be year 2000 or newer. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, own an Android or iPhone with data/text plan, and consent to and pass a background and DMV check.

DoorDash

DoorDash offers on-demand delivery service that allows customers place and receive restaurant orders. Customers order with DoorDash, DoorDash forwards the order to their partner
restaurants, and assigns a driver (Dasher) to collect and deliver the order to customers. DoorDash typically operates from 8am to 11pm, but hours depend on the city and participating restaurants.

Type of Delivery: You’ll deliver food and other items from partner restaurants and other retailers. If you deliver alcohol orders, you must be at least 21 years old.

Payment: As a Dasher, you earn a flat amount per delivery you make, plus tips. You will be paid weekly via direct deposit.

Locations: Currently, Dashers get paid to drive in 25 markets in the United States and Canada.

Driver Requirements: As a Dasher, you must be at least 18 years old with a smartphone. You can use any car to make deliveries as long as you have a year of driving experience, a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a clean driving record. You must pass a background check and attend an orientation session.

Roadie

Roadie provides a flexible delivery service with drivers (Roadies) that can deliver almost anything to anywhere across the country! Customers post “gigs” that need to be picked up and delivered same-day, next-day, or over the next several days. As a Roadie, you’ll select gigs of your choice from the app, and even get discounts from partner merchants along the way.

Type of Delivery: Truly, almost anything – even pets! Roadie says they deliver anything from “cupcakes to couches.”

Payment: Your pay is contingent upon mileage, what you are delivering, and other factors. You will know each the cost of each gig before you select it. According to Roadie, “most local Gigs will pay between $8 and $50, and long distance Gigs with oversized items can pay up to $650 and even more for delivering pets.” You are paid via direct deposit upon delivery confirmation.

Locations: The United States of America – anywhere that there are senders and drivers connected to the Roadie app.
