InteliChek Review: At-Home Telephone Mystery Shopper Jobs

InteliChek is a market research company whose mystery shoppers gather information over the telephone on behalf of clients.

InteliChek compiles this information and uses it to help their clients analyze competition, improve products and services, and develop effective marketing strategies. The company was founded in 1997, and they maintain headquarters in Pennsylvania.

While InteliChek does hire agents to test their iPhone, iPad, and web-based applications, most of their job opportunities are for Telephone Mystery Shoppers. This position requires you to call specified companies to inquire about pricing for select items, or to ask questions about other aspects of their business.

Some calls are designed to test the company’s customer service staff while others are intended to collect information that will help the company remain competitive, so you will ask different questions for each company that you call.

As with any mystery shopper job, you are not permitted to reveal that you’re a mystery shopper, and that includes circumstances where you may be asked directly.

You will need to enter the information that you obtain into the company’s web-based system before you move on to the next phone call. While the company specializes in shopping companies within the automotive industry, they may have work in other fields at times.

InteliChek also hires French-Canadian Telephone Mystery Shoppers with French and English fluency, and the ability to call businesses in Canada.

There are no upfront fees to start working, and you will be hired as an independent contractor.

What Does InteliChek Pay?

I’ve seen some conflicting information about pay.

According to a post at Work Place Like Home (the site is no longer available) by a member who interviewed in late 2015, the pay is based on the number of services that you ask about in each call. You can make up to 90 cents for each service that you ask about, and you may need to ask about multiple services within a single call.

While there are many factors that will determine how long you spend on a phone call, this applicant stated that you could expect to make up to 12 calls per hour.

Scheduling

Since your job involves calling businesses, you must complete all of your work during standard working hours for each business.

The work hours listed by InteliChek are 8am to 7pm Monday through Friday, and 9am to 6pm on Saturday, likely Eastern time. According to the company’s website, they are currently interested in hiring mystery shoppers capable of working 15-25 hours per week, but it’s possible to work up to 30 hours a week when work is available.

Since you will be classified as an independent contractor, you will likely set your own hours.

Technical Requirements

All you need is a computer with high-speed internet access and a telephone to work as an InteliChek shopper.  A dedicated home office or a quiet environment is not required.

If you are interested in being an iPhone/iPad application tester, you must have an iPhone or iPad.

Other Requirements

You must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED to apply for the Telephone Mystery Shopper position. While a college degree isn’t required, the InteliChek website does specify that a degree is a plus.

You must live in the United States, though Canadian workers are also considered for the French-Canadian positions. A few of the qualifications that Intelichek is looking for are:

  • Articulate speaking voice with great phone presence
  • Typing speed of at least 35 wpm with accuracy
  • Computer skills using MS Office, MS Windows, email, and performing internet searches.

Application Process

Go to InteliChek’s jobs page to review job descriptions, and apply based on the position you are interested in. You will need to upload your resume and a cover letter, and there are some initial screening questions as well.
